Alone

Rayne, up until the locust infestation/blight caused by eeeeviil, was a rural girl. All this city stuff is terrifying to leetle Rayne. D: (who's, what, elevenish here?)

The farm is sucking so Tomas sent Rayne with what little supplies he could muster to get help from the wizards in the southern part of the country; he knew he had a good chance of dying with no way to fend for himself and half the town already starving or starved to death by that point, but he knew that Rayne might have potential and a new future to the south in the sort of life her mother might have left behind. When one's love and livelihood have been taken from them, one will do all it takes to protect what is left, no?

Rayne is scared of the city - lots of bad-smelling people she doesn't know and lots of mean-looking animals and children, not at all like home. But there's no blight here, so she makes her way to the abode of Gregor Fortelli after much pointing in the right direction by passersby, and begs on hands and knees for him to help her family.
Gregor goes and finds that Tomas is already dead, but is reluctant to tell the scrawny and miserable-looking little girl who walked countless miles to his door. He is debating what to do when Rayne, having gotten it into her fanciful imagination that this wooden staff was a wizard staff and she was a wizard, accidentally did real magic and set Gregor's curtains aflame.
